English Language Teaching materials

Take a look at the new Support Materials for Teachers of English available on this site.

The teacher support materials aimed at primary and secondary students of English provide ideas, techniques and downloadable activity sheets for making use of the exhibition and website integrating different aspects of the British Council's work in promoting reading and literature, the visual arts and language teaching.  The result is an innovative approach to using children's literature which promotes children and teenager's language development in an enjoyable visual, literary and cultural context making use of new technology.  The materials can also be used to promote values and citizenship education and to develop intercultural awareness, through comparing and contrasting Magic Pencil illustrators and writers with ones from their own country and culture.

There are introductory themes for primary, Engagement through the book covers, and for secondary, Engagement through the artists.  These themes provide a point of entry to the exhibition, the website and to the associated storybooks.  There is also a primary theme, Me and My Family.

More sets of theme-based materials exploiting other storybooks from the Magic Pencil illustrators will be coming soon.

The materials have been written by Carol Read.
