Sara Fanelli wins V&A Awards


Pinocchio, illustrated by Sara Fanelli, is this year's overall winner of The V&A Illustration Awards, the UK's premier awards for book and editorial illustration. Selected from more than 500 entries.


Among this year's judging panel were artist Gavin Turk and writer and broadcaster Joan Bakewell, as well as illustrator and RCA senior tutor Andrzej Klimowski and the V&A Director Mark Jones.

The Illustration Awards have been established since 1972 and previous award winners include Quentin Blake, Michael Foreman, Ralph Steadman and Posy Simmonds. There will be a display of the award-winning entries, including preliminary sketches, at the V&A from 1 December 2004 until 15 May 2005.


In 2005, a further category will be added to the Awards for Student Illustrator of the Year.
